Your Language Learning Journey Starts here

Language learning.

For some of us, it's been a dream to learn a language. To speak another tongue. To communicate with other people and to understand another culture and way of life.

For some of us, it's because you want to make some friends and meet new people.

And for others of us, learning another language isn't a dream, it's a necessity. We need it to get a better job, to move to another country, to hit on a beautiful girl/handsome guy.

I'm curious to hear your language learning stories.

And I'd also like to help you learn a language in any way I can.

My language learning story is actually quite silly, and it's still very much a work in progress.

I decided to start LangHak.com for several reasons:

  1. I want to keep myself accountable to my own language learning goals
  2. I want to keep a record of my progress to see how much I've improved (or have forgotten!)
  3. I want others to see how I'm learning languages, and by doing so, help others learn languages too

The important thing is that, like myself, LangHak.com is very much a work in progress. I'm going to make mistakes learning and keep moving forward.

What is "LangHak?" What Does "LangHak" Mean? How Do You Pronounce "LangHak?"

What Does "LangHak" Mean?

LangHak is a combination of two words: "Language" and "Hak 학," which means "learning" in Korean.

Basically it means "language learning."

How Do You Pronounce "LangHak?"

"학" is pronounced something like "hahk."

For example, when you say "Ha ha ha," just add a "k" sound at the end, but doing release any air at the end.

"학" is the Korean pronunciation of the Chinese Character 學/学.

Why Did I Choose the Name "LangHak?"

I thought LangHak would be a good name for many reasons.

  • Korean is the first language that I truly learned to a pretty high level (TOPIK 4-5; similar to B2-C1)
  • I live in Korea, and I have both taught English here and studied Korean and other languages, so the word "Hak" has a lot of personal meaning to me
  • The Korean pronunciation of the Chinese Character 學/学 happens to be "Hak", which is similar to the English word "hack," so I thought it would be a nice play on words
